For me, high school was about wearing the perfect outfit to school everyday, getting that record five appearances in the yearbook, going to the movies with friends on Friday nights, and believing that my parents were invincible.

On Saturday, October 8, 2011 - while doing community service at the Taber Museum with my sisters I recieved a phone call that my father had been taken to the hospital and was not breathing. Immediately I told Brittany and she agreed to make that long drive home with me. On the drive home to Clearfield, at 4:31PM, I received a phone call that my father had passed away from a massive coronary heart attack.

Suddenly all the petty things I cared about in high school didn’t matter anymore. But, one thing still remained - the amaXing women I call my sisters, the Iota Mu Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta.

Over the week that I was home I recieved many phone calls, Facebook posts, emails, and flowers. My Big, Danielle, and Brittany had agreed to come to the viewing that evening. I had never felt so relieved to have someone keep me company among crying friends and family. As I awaited their arrival with my brother, grandma, and mom, I heard gasps throughout the funeral home. As I looked up, I saw 20 amaXing women, power dressed in Quill Attire, confident, and ready to step in and do anything.

This is how we realize our potential. This is Alpha Xi Delta.

I’d have to say yes. I’m not proud of how I got here, but i’m proud of who I am.
